I celebrated my golden birthday in 2009, so to make it more fun I took a trip down to Austin, Texas to visit Chris and Kevin. It was a great trip, and I was happy to see them in their new city and to have visited a city I'd never been to before.
- Day 1 - My birthday was on Friday in 2009, so I decided to take Thursday and Friday off and head down there on Wednesday evening. Thus, Thursday was really Day One. Chris and Kevin both had to work that day, so I was free to wander the city on my own. I started out near the Capital, and then made my way up to the University of Texas. Then I headed south again, eventually making my way to a trail along the river and into the Ziker Botanical Gardens. Here I met up with Chris so we could head out for dinner and an evening of hanging out at his place.
- Day 2 - We spent a good chunk of the day Friday touring the city, going to various parks, shops, and minor attractions that Chris and Kevin thought I might like. That evening we went to a Master Pancake Theatre showing of The Matrix.
- Day 3 - Saturday started with a quick flashmob at a grocery store, followed by some more messing around downtown. Later in the day we took a Segway tour of Austin, which included Segway playtime in a park and Kevin being launched face-first off the front of his. The day ended with some playing with cameras in the dark.
- Day 4 - My last day in Austin was spent doing a lot of random little things, including stopping by the Austin Goodwill Computer Works. Kevin also took some time to lead me on a tour of the houses in his neighborhood before my plane took me back to Chicago. Mission accomplished!
